Report on Site Survey - and Action Taken

Thank you for your replies.

In fact, in the last year I have had MANY fewer comments than I did when the site first started off, even though vastly more people are using it.

Frankly, I hope that this is because I have reacted to your suggested changes and made a site which is more useful.

In all, therefore, I only have 24 replies to comment on, which is not very many at all.

Found:

I was very interested to find out what brought you to my site.   Here are the results so far:

Previous This time

Recommended by my teacher.

31%

52%

Through a search engine.

27%

28%

Via a link from another site.

13%

4%

By accident

11%

16%

Which is really interesting.   More people are being referred by their teachers, and many fewer are arriving from other sites - is this because johndclare.net is becoming more established, because more people know about it and go straight there.

Usefulness:

I was delighted by the results for this question:

Very useful.

69%

90%

Not relevant to my needs.

13%

7%

Too hard.

9%

0%

Too easy

2%

3%

which I took to be a vote of satisfaction.

Suggestions:

Not everyone who completes the Contact form has a suggestion, but these are the ones I have received so far (and what I have done about them):

no -it's a real find. Many thanks

Some of you were quite happy with the site as it is, and were kind enough to say so.

Thanks.

It makes it all worthwhile!

Not really - its brilliant.

Excellent site!!

Excellent site, makes me realise how much I actually do know, amazingly!

please stop giving sheets to my teacher hes John D clare crazy

This one says the same, really, in an amusing way!

I would like you to do an A level one; you really helped on many of my worries at GCSE and now I am doing A level, I have nowhere to turn too....

And this one is really kind too, although I'm afraid that I've never taught A-Level, and wouldn't be able to give the right kind of help.

Of the comments that suggested improvements:

A hard copy booklet for america and more on nazi germany please

Yes - I'm sorry, I need to do some more work on America in a number of areas.   But I'm surprised about Nazi Germany - there's loads there if you look.

Hard copy booklet and self test for America but excellent site overall, thanks!

more on option V please :D btw my history teacher loves you!

Again, I think that you will find there's loads on Option V if you look.

Could you please add stuff about the Liberal Reforms and stuff? Pleasssseeeeee?

Hmmm.   More difficult.   I hope to do one day but you will have finished your GCSE.   For the moment try Bitesize.

Arab Israeli conflict... if you have any spare time, thanks!

Very unlikely; will this survive when they change GCSE?

A self-test for Britain in World War II please.

Good idea - must do.

Popular/common source questions that tend to appear on exam papers to be annotated online. By the way , this is the best History Gcse website ever!!! its really helpful.

REALLY good idea.   I would like to try that!!

drag and drop questions

Are you sure these are a good way to learn?   From what I see, pupils do them without much thought.

More example essays/ more critical approach

Like the idea of the more critical approach = more on historiography?

Canadian involvement in WWII, they were fairly significant. ie. the Gouzenko Affair and Lester B. Pearson's contribution to the Suez Crisis. I would greatly appreciate it. By the way, this website is absolutely amazingly helpful! :)

A bit too specialist for me, and I'm not really an expert on Canadian history.   Sounds REALLY fascinating, though.

studies on theology

Sorry - wrong site, though I was a Methodist preacher many years ago!

Could be a bit more clearly/professionally laid out. All the information is here but it can be hard to find.

I'm sorry about this - did your opinion change as you became more familiar with the site?   I will think about this.
