Media Assignment

This assignment is trying to find out if you can:

●   understand and evaluate presentational devices and visual images,

●   show an understanding of the characteristics of the medium,

●   express opinions and viewpoints clearly.

The assignment asks you to compare and evaluate two adverts -- one for a perfume, the other for a supercharged 4x4 vehicle.   The title of your assignment is:

Analyse and explain the techniques used by the Pure Purple and Supercharged advertisements to attract and persuade their target audiences.   Explain which advert you think is the more successful, and why.

Writing the Assignment

To write this assignment, you will need to write SIX paragraphs which for the two adverts:

●   describe the adverts and what they show,

●   identify the target audiences (and how you know),

●   analyse and explain the picture (including use of colour, use of image(s), the size, layout, size of the font, use and placing of logos etc.) and decide how well the adverts uses these images.

●   analyse and explain the 'copy' (words and slogans, including features of language such as use of abbreviations, unusual sentences, directly addressing the reader, questions, slang, jargon, jokes or puns, claims, lists or figures, facts, words that appeal to our feelings etc.) and decide how well the adverts use words in the way they do.

●   analyse and compare the psychological impact/appeal of the adverts to the target audience.

●   decide how successful the adverts are, and why.
